Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson

Bordering the north side of Anchorage, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) is the the largest installation in Alaska. On July 30, 2010, the 673d Air Base Wing, the host unit for JBER, combined installation management functions of Elmendorf Air Force Base's 3rd Wing and U.S. Army Garrison Fort Richardson. The 673d Air Base Wing is comprised of 5,500 joint military and civilian personnel, and provides support for over 12,000 service people and their families on the joint installation.

JBER is home to the Air Force's Headquarters, Alaskan Command (ALCOM); Alaskan NORAD Region (ANR); Eleventh Air Force (11AF), and the 3rd Wing (3 WG), the Army's U.S. Army Alaska (USARAK); the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division; and the 3rd Movement Enhancement Brigade.

The Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Environmental Program

The JBER Environmental Program is responsible for the the protection of more than 74,000 acres of largely unspoiled, natural land. The Polar Bowl is the largest bowling center in the Air Force with 40 lanes, an A&W, and Godfather's Pizza. Outdoor recreation enjoyed by JBER residents includes: camping, golfing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, skiing, paintball, and skeet and trap.

The JBER Chapel is a place to worship, learn , and socialize. The Chapel offers services for weddings, family counseling, Protestant Worship and Sunday School, Catholic Worship, young adult ministries, youth programs, and a hospitality house.

Elementary and high school students attend the Anchorage School District. Post secondary schooling can be attained from the University of Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Pacific University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Wayland Baptist University, and the Central Texas College.
