Keep Cool in the Fairbanks Heat Wave!

While most of the United States expects temperatures to soar in the summer months, up here in Alaska it’s an anomaly! Fairbanks is experiencing an extreme heat wave with no indication of relief. Whether you welcome the climate change or are at a loss as to how to deal with the above average temperatures, it looks like the 90-degree weather is here to stay for the foreseeable future. It’s time to get creative!

As central air conditioning is non-existent in Alaska, most homeowners are relying on fans and window units to keep their Fairbanks homes cool this week. In fact, most homes up here are designed to keep warm air inside and cold air outside. Needless to say, we’re all sweltering. To help you keep energy costs down and survive the heat wave, I’ve come up with a list of ways you can stay cool (and maintain your sanity!) while we ride out this bizarre streak of weather.
