Discover September's First Friday in Fairbanks
Summer flew by in the blink of an eye here in Fairbanks! Hopefully you’ve kept up with your home maintenance tasks and are fully prepared for the long winter season ahead. Because autumn goes by so quickly in Alaska, it’s important to seize every opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy the crisp September weather before snow begins to blanket the ground. Now that Labor Day has come and gone, we’re able to truly celebrate the beginning of the fall season at September's First Friday.
This Friday, September 6th will be your prime opportunity to check out the best new art shows at a selection of galleries, shops, and restaurants in downtown Fairbanks. If you’ve recently decided to buy a home in Fairbanks, there’s no better way to explore your new community and meet your new neighbors! Though the temperature is cooling off quite a bit, downtown Fairbanks is sure to be abuzz throughout the day and into the evening with residents and visitors alike. To give you an idea of what to expect at September's First Friday, we’ve listed a few of the highlights below.
- The grand unveiling of The Window Project will happen at 5:30pm in Golden Heart Plaza, consisting of thirteen windows featuring the work of twelve different artists. There will be an introduction by Downtown Association Executive Director David van den Berg, followed by comments from sponsors and a walking tour of the artistic installations.
- Marc Brown & the Blues Crew will perform live at Jade Resale Boutique & Gifts, setting the mood as you browse Alaska Native quillwork and contemporary jewelry.
- Stop by If Only… a Fine Store from 5:00pm until 8:00pm to shop a selection of handmade silk and felted wool scarves. Refreshments will be on hand and there will be a drawing for a door prize.
- If you’re looking for a new piece to add to your Fairbanks home, you’ll want to check out the work of Laura Lyn Gregory. Her stunning photographs of Alaska’s wildlife, scenery, and people will be on display and for purchase at Holistic Medical Center.
